Grandpa and Me and the Park in the City is the story of Braden, a suburban-bred seven-year-old who spends his summers with his grandfather in the city, and comes to see the world in a new way. Although he thinks he's too old to play in the park, Braden goes there with his grandfather very early one morning. He meets all kinds of people. Some are doing tai chi. Overly confident, he joins in, only to find out that the moves are more difficult than they look.

Discouraged, he stops trying, and begins watching the other people in the park instead. There is a man who is trying and trying to chin up, and finally he succeeds. Then it comes to Braden: some practice and hard work would make him good, too.

This book is for children, parents, and grandparents. It is also perfect for Growth Mindset teaching, and lends itself to inter-generational, ethnic, and urban study theme units for elementary school teachers. Urban children especially will identify with the park in the city.
