Fantastic Books Newsletter #1

Thank you for signing up for the Fantastic Books mailing list. As you may have noticed, this is the first time we are sending out our newsletter. We don't expect to do so often, but we thought you’d like to know that we have several projects all coming to fruition in the near future.

At the end of May, we debuted two new books at Balticon: Bud Sparhawk's new collection, Non-Parallel Universes, and Brian Koscienski and Chris Pisano's new novel, The Biggest Bounty.

Non-Parallel Universes has earned high praise from the likes of Allen Steele, Jack McDevitt, Charles Gannon, Robert Chase, and Gail Z. Martin. Locus calls it "a valuable gift to the community of readers and a proud and honorable legacy." For more information, see http://fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/sf/151541020X.html.

The Biggest Bounty is a comic tale of interstellar bounty hunters… who aren't that good yet. Jon Sprunk calls it "a magical mystery tour of farce and ingenuity" and "a tongue-in-cheek-de force that will take you to new worlds and leave you either clawing out your eyes or coming back for more." http://www.fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/sf/1515410153.html.

In July, we'll launch two more exciting volumes: Up the Rainbow: The Complete Short Fiction of Susan Casper (lovingly edited by her husband, award-winning editor Gardner Dozois), and Science Fiction for the Throne: One-Sitting Reads, edited by Tom Easton and Judith K. Dial.

Susan Casper was a remarkable writer who may have been overshadowed by her husband, Gardner Dozois (who won 15 Hugos and two Nebulas). But Susan's fiction was wonderful and memorable on its own. Following her recent death, Gardner collected all of her short fiction (including a few pieces that had never been published), as well as her famous trip reports. Introduced by Michael Swanwick, this mammoth collection has already been praised by Connie Willis ("compelling"), Samuel R. Delany ("beautifully written and beautifully observed"), Nancy Kress ("wonderful"), Pat Cadigan ("I wish I'd written that"), Kristine Kathryn Rusch ("I have loved every story of Susan's"), James Patrick Kelly ("profound"), Mike Resnick ("impressive"), Jack Dann ("powerful"), and Sheila Williams ("reveals the evocative depths of her vivid imagination"). We'll be publishing it in July, in simultaneous hardcover and trade paperback editions. http://www.fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/fantasy/1515410277.html.

Science Fiction for the Throne is an anthology of forty short science fiction stories, each suitable for reading in one sitting. Conceived of as a reprint anthology, so many authors asked to participate and write new stories for the book that it is a combination reprint and original anthology.
