Fantastic Books Newsletter #6

August 2021: a scant two and a half years since the last Fantastic Books newsletter. Pandemic, etc., well, you can figure out why we took some time.

But as the world is re-opening, and we're kicking the company back into gear, it seemed time to update you on a few interesting projects.

First and foremost: we launched our newest Kickstarter campaign today. Three Time Travelers Walk Into… is going to be an anthology edited by Michael A. Ventrella. The only thing we told the authors is "pick three unconnected historical figures, get them together, and tell us about the mayhem that ensues"! We've got ten authors signed up to participate: Adam-Troy Castro, Peter David, Keith R.A. DeCandido, Jonathan Maberry, Gail Z. Martin, James Moore, Jody Lynn Nye, L. Penelope, Allen Steele, and Lawrence Watt-Evans. Once the book is funded, we'll open it up to other submissions, so if you're a writer, start thinking. And if you don't want to write the whole story, but you've got the ideal threesome of characters picked out, Peter David is offering you the chance to tell him what to write! Click on through to the campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/667435382/three-time-travelers-walk-into, and also, tell your friends.

In other news, we were planning to publish the third in our "…for the Thrones" series in the summer of 2019, but, pandemic. Instead, we held off, but now that we're back in action, Horror for the Throne was published last month. Forty short stories guaranteed to scare… it right out of you! You'll probably want to read this one with the lights on. http://www.fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/fantasy/151542409X.html.

And we've got two big new books coming out in the near future:

On Samuel R. Delany's Dhalgren, is a gigantic book of reviews, critical analyses, and essays discussing one of science fiction's most controversial and best-selling novels. This collection was edited by Bill Wood—with significant assistance from Samuel Delany himself—and is fully illustrated. Publishers Weekly has already said the book is an "immersive and comprehensive collection" which "fans of Delaney's classic will want to snap up." Watch for the simultaneous publication of the trade paperback (272 pages, $21.99, 978-1-5154-2419-2) and hardcover (272 pages, $31.99, 978-1-5154-4772-6) editions on September 9th. http://www.fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/press/ondhalgren05252001.html.

Sanctuary is Allen Steele's newest novel. In it, human colonists find their spaceship disintegrating around them as they arrive at Tau Ceti-e. A plastic-eating microbe has stranded them on this new planet with only 18th century technology. And the not-exactly-friendly aliens are not too happy to have them. But when private eye Jeremy Crowe finds himself caught up in the underground search for the truth, stuck on a middling rung in the modern caste system, and struggling to not make humanity's desperate situation any worse, fighting for his life may turn out to be the easy part. We'll be publishing Sanctuary in simultaneous trade paperback (308 pages, $15.99, 978-1-5154-4774-0) and hardcover (308 pages, $26.99, 978-1-5154-4773-3) editions on November 2nd. http://www.fantasticbooks.biz/fantasticbooks/press/sanctuary07192021.html.

We certainly hope you're coming through the pandemic safely, and that you and your family are staying well. In the meantime, thanks for reading! Feel free to share this newsletter far and wide.
