Author and critic James D. Macdonald lives in New England, and frequently collaborated with his wife, Debra Doyle.

He served in the US Navy for fifteen years, and was one of the instigators of the Atlanta Nights campaign targeting PublishAmerica.

His novel Knight's Wyrd (co-written with Debra Doyle) won the Mythopoeic Award for children's fantasy in 1993.
